Koh Samui
Located in the gulf of Thailand about 600 Km's south of Bangkok and a 1.5 Hr's Ferry ride from Don Sak on the coast of Surat Thani is the wonderful Tropical island of Koh Samui.
Koh Samui, is the third largest Island in Thailand, measuring 21 kilometers at its widest point and 25 kilometers in length, with a land area of approx. 280 sp.km and has a local population of a mere 34,000. Koh Samui one of a group of 80 tropical islands Known as Angthong National Marine Park, where a stunning archipelago awaits to greet visitors with their charming palm-fringed beaches, crystal clear water and colorful coral reefs. The numerous islands make's it a perfect hideaway for vacationers from around the world. Its neighbor Ko Pha-ngan a celebrated island that hosts the Legendary full moon beach party. North of Ko Pha-ngan is Ko Tao, renowned for its excellent coral reefs and Dive centers. The best time to enjoy one of these islands to the fullest is from Late December to August.
The local population consisting mainly of Buddhist Thais is very friendly. Until the recent arrival of tourism, coconut farming and fishing were the main sources of income. The latter are still practiced though to a lesser extent. The fish you'll eat in the many restaurants and hotel dining rooms comes from the surrounding Gulf of Thailand' waters.
The largest and most popular beaches on Samui are Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut and Maenam. For those looking for a quieter place to spend their holiday, there are another 20 or so other beaches to choose from.
